Per Capita Bills and Statewide Tax Recovery LLC.

Category: Elk County News Published: Thursday, 14 March 2019

Per Capita bills are mailed on March 1st of every year to all individuals, over 18 years of age, in the County and are able to be paid to the Tax Collector up until December 31st of the year in which they were billed.

In the past, delinquent Per Capita taxes were difficult to collect as people move, etc.  Elk County was approached by Statewide Tax Recovery, Inc. in 2017 to form a contractual relationship whereby Statewide would begin collecting the delinquent Per Capita taxes for the County.  At the February 7, 2017 Elk County Commissioners Meeting, a motion to approve a Collection Agreement with Statewide Tax Recovery, Inc. for collection of delinquent taxes at no cost to the County was approved unanimously.

In January, some Municipal Tax Collectors turned over multiple years’ worth of delinquent Per Capita Taxes to Statewide Tax Recovery, Inc.  In February, those delinquent bills were sent by Statewide.  We know that an error was made with the delinquent Fox Township bills in that they were mistakenly identified as “Jones” township rather than “Fox” township; those bills are being corrected and resent by Statewide.  For each delinquency, Statewide Tax Recovery, Inc. charges a $25 fee to the delinquent tax.

Statewide Tax Recovery, Inc. is happy to work on resolving the issue in question.  Debt collectors and consumers want the same thing; to resolve a legitimately owed debt or clear up any misunderstanding if the wrong person has been contacted.  By working together, issues can be resolved quickly and efficiently.  If you have questions with the notice you received, you can call Statewide Tax Recovery, Inc at 1-800-326-9380 or you can go to their website at www.statewidetaxrecovery.com
