"The judge is forced for the most part to reach his audience through the medium of the press whose reporting of judicial decisions is all too often inaccurate and superficial.

The Elk and Cameron Counties Intermediate Punishment Program is essentially a middle ground between incarceration and traditional probation. All potential candidates for intermediate punishment are screened for eligibility prior to being sentenced. Once qualified, the individual’s sentence is structured to his/her particular needs. Individuals who participate in the program are released into the community; however, they are subject to very strict guidelines and conditions. Anyone who does not follow the conditions is placed in the county jail to serve the remainder of his/her sentence.
