The Elk and Cameron Counties Intermediate Punishment Program is essentially a middle ground between incarceration and traditional probation. All potential candidates for intermediate punishment are screened for eligibility prior to being sentenced. Once qualified, the individual’s sentence is structured to his/her particular needs. Individuals who participate in the program are released into the community; however, they are subject to very strict guidelines and conditions. Anyone who does not follow the conditions is placed in the county jail to serve the remainder of his/her sentence.
