TThe Prothonotary is a dual officeholder.  He holds the office of Prothonotary which is the clerk of the civil court.  The civil court deals with the record keeping and processing of such cases as actions in law, equity, divorce, custody, protection from abuse, mechanics liens, judgments, appeals from the district justice and uniform commercial code transactions.

The Prothonotary also holds the office Clerk of Courts which deals with the record keeping and reporting of criminal cases which have been bound over to court from the district justice. Additionally, he maintains road dockets and naturalization records.
