Starting in 2023, the Elk County Sheriff's Office will be conducting their Sheriff Sales online using Bid4Assets.  Below are the 2023 sale dates along with some useful information on Bid4Assets which includes how potential bidders can register to bid on upcoming sales.

ELK COUNTY SHERIFF SALES INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS & INSTRUCTIONS

A SALE DATE WILL NOT BE SET UNTIL ALL REQUIREMENTS ARE MET.

  1. Advance of $3,000.00 made payable to the Elk County Sheriff’s Office.
  2. Writ of Execution (1 for Sheriff’s Office and 1 per defendant/property to be served.)
  3. Notice of Sheriff’s Sale (1 for Sheriff’s Office and 1 per defendant to be served.)
  4. Two (2) postage-paid, self-addressed stamped envelopes.
  5. Affidavit of Notice pursuant to Rule 3129.1. 
  6. Legal description must include the following per Rule 3129.2:
    • Deed book & page # of recorded deed
    • Tax Map # & Control #. You may get this information from the Elk County Assessment Office (814) 776-5340.
    • Address of property to be sold including full street address
    • Improvements to the property such as a two-story frame dwelling w/ one car detached garage. Listing residential dwelling is not This information is required per Rule 3129.2.
    • Do not type the description in capital letters. 
      **Please indicate if you prefer we use the short or long description for publication. Email the legal description(s) to: This email address is being protected from spambots. If you prefer we advertise the short description, please email that as well.
  7.  Name of contact person or persons within your office and direct dial telephone number we may call if a question should arise. Also, list an email address if available (this is used specifically for service information and post-sale questions. This is very helpful!) 
  8. If your office has obtained a Posting Order from the Court for service, please include this with the writ packet for our office.

A Notice of Sheriff Sale/handbill will be mailed to your office.

One week prior to the sale, notify the Sheriff’s Office who will appear to represent your interest. Provide the Chief Deputy or Office Manager with the name and address you wish to appear on the deed via email, FAX or letter.

A list of available local attorneys to appear on your behalf is attached at the end of this document.

If the plaintiff is awarded the bid, you will receive the following:

  • A letter from our Solicitor outlining the amount due
  • Deed
  • A copy of the schedule of distribution

The following must be received by the Sheriff’s office no later than 30 days after the date of the Sale without any demand being made by the Sheriff’s Office:

  • The Deed
  • (2) Realty Transfer Tax Statement of Value Forms
  • Assignment of Mortgage as proof of property ownership at the time of sale
  • A check for any additional funds
  • Lien Creditor’s Receipt, if applicable

 The fee for deed preparation is $200.00 (effective October 2022) and will be included in the Sheriff’s costs. The Deed, Realty Transfer Tax Statement of Value, and Assignment/Mortgage will be filed within forty (40) days from the date of sale. (Provided the Schedule of Distribution is posted for ten (10) days and no exceptions have been filed.)

License To Carry / Protection Permits

EXTENSION TO LICENSE TO CARRY FIREARMS PERMITS

Governor Wolf has granted an additional extension to LTC's. Permits expiring on 3/19/20 or later are now valid through 9/30/20. Please see full Press Release from the Pennsylvania State Police below.

To submit an application, simply print, fill out and mail to our office for processing. You will be contacted with further instructions upon approval.

Our office is also accepting appointments for issuing new and renewal permits. If you have received notice that your application has been approved, please call 776-5353 to schedule an appointment.

If you currently have a permit, you will receive a renewal application and instructions mailed to you within 30-60 days of the expiration of your license to carry firearms.  If you are unable to locate the renewal application, please contact our office at (814) 776-5353 and another will be mailed to you.  The instructions and application listed below are for 
NEW applicants only.

The Elk County Sheriff's Office is responsible for processing all applications for a Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms. This license allows a person to carry a concealed weapon on their person or in a motor vehicle. The licenses are issued to persons who qualify, based on a background investigation conducted by the Sheriffs Office, within 45 days of the filing of the application. The license is valid for a period of 5 years. The license may be revoked at anytime for reasons of misuse or criminal activity. Applications for a Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms may be obtained on-line, (see forms above) or by coming into the Sheriff's Office located on the 1st floor of the Elk County Courthouse during our normal business hours of 8:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., Monday-Friday, excluding holidays. Applications may also be obtained by calling our office at (814) 776-5353.
 

  • Applicant must be an Elk County resident and 21 years of age.
  • Applicant must have a current PA driver's license or PA identification card.
  • Fee for photo license is $20.00(Please do NOT send payment with your application.)
  • If you are not a resident of Pennsylvania, you must provide us with the following: 
      a copy of your permit in the state you reside,
      a copy of your driver's license and
      a detailed letter as to why you are applying in Elk County.

 

Our Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. excluding holidays.
